NEWSIES
At its core, NEWSIES is about standing up for what is right and it reminds us that every voice counts and can make a difference. The fact that almost hundred and twenty years ago a bunch of kids from the streets of New York stood up for themselves is impressive and should be remembered. America was built on people coming together and standing up for what is right and fair. I think it is incredibly important in today’s technological frenzy that our students know that they can make a difference and that their opinions are important. They need to remember to actually SEIZE THE DAY and not let it pass them by.
Design Concept: Industrial, Steel, and Projections- I used reclaimed scaffolding and found railings to create the metal bones of the set. Students welded the pieces together and we topped them with platforms. For the first time we used multiple projectors, overlapping two and hiding to in the lighting grid over the audience.
