Fiddler on the Roof

 Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof is a traditional Broadway favorite and I had wanted to direct it for several years. It is a perfect combination of fantastic songs, cultural relevance and a thought-provoking exploration into the constructs of love.  Fiddler on the Roof is as important now, as it was in 1964.  Religious persecution continues to drive intense international conflicts and national strife, and the traditions of “love” are constantly evolving and expanding as we redefine family and expand our circles of acceptance.  Fiddler on the Roof reminds us all that we are human, regardless of race, gender, or religion and we all deserve a place in the “village” we call Earth.

Design Concept: Wood and Light- I used reclaimed pallets and recycled wood to create the house and barn, supplementing when needed. We used different aging treatments for each structure. The house was two sided and opened like a story book. The barn was an intricate stair system for our fiddler. We kept the stage open and used dramatic lighting to punctuate the serious tones of the play.
